Mindful Consumption During the Holidays

The scariest haunted house I have ever been in? Target, Home Goods, T.J. Maxx, or Walmart during the “ber” months. Don’t get me wrong, I love being festive as much as the next person, but if you take a closer look into the manufacturing and quality of the products being pushed at these retailers, you will see they are not built for longevity.

I have been seeing so much misuse of the word “whimsy” this year and it connects directly to overconsumption. Whimsy is not, in fact, bedazzling a plastic cup, buying cheap decorations that will last (up to) one season, or even in relation to purchases at all. Whimsy can come in the most thrifty and environmental forms, and I am here to shout from the rooftops “DO NOT BUY TRASH AND CALL IT WHIMSY!”

Did you just move into a new space and want to decorate for the holidays? Here are my top recommendations for decorating and celebrating while avoiding landfill core.

Vintage holiday decor is the elite holiday decor. Here are my favorite spots in the Seacoast, NH area to check out.

Looking to do some fun crafts to decorate? Here are some easy and fun ones!

So as you are walking into literally any store in the next few months, I urge you to resist the landfill-core products prominently displayed on every end cap and head to the craft section or your local thrift/ antique store instead!
